John Lennon sits alone in quiet contemplation on the floor of Abbey Road studios on March 30th 1967, the same day the Beatles would pose for the historic album cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. This image lay undiscovered in Herrmann's archive for 30 years, the photographer believing this negative underexposed and ignoring it before realising he had a perfect thought provoking portrait of Lennon.
The replicated image of a contemplative Lennon has been inserted to every frame of the same roll shot by Herrmann at Abbey Road and then colour tests were carried out using colours from the Sgt pepper album cover. This is the favoured variation that has been used for the limited edition print.
This is the last work that Herrmann was able to sign before he became unable to hold a pen.
March 30th 1967 turned out to be a historic day in the Beatles calendar as following the recording session photographed here by Herrmann, they made their way to Michael Cooper's Flood Street studio to be photographed for one of the most famous album covers of all time, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
All prints are embossed with the photographers stamp, numbered and signed by the photographer Frank Herrmann in pencil on lower right margin.
All works are sold unframed.
